New Bird Discovered in Cambodia

New birds are still being discovered–even today! This bird, called the Cambodian tailorbird (or Orthotomus chaktomuk), was identified recently in the capitol city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, and announced in the Oriental Bird Club’s journal, Forktail. It is a wren-sized and red-headed!

As MSN reported, “The brand-new bird species, first spotted in 2009 during checks for avian flu, lives in Cambodia’s hectic capital of Phnom Penh. Studies have confirmed that the urban-dwelling tailorbird is distinct from other species, differing in plumage, song and genetic makeup. Bird lovers are all aflutter.”
