Southern Cordon-Bleu

At breakfast in east Africa,
it was odd to be talking about the problems
of medical insurance in America,
which made me want to look up and away,
and I did, into a green tree, and there you were:

Four or five Southern Cordon-Bleu,
with your teal bellies and brown hoods,
darting through the down-hanging tropical leaves,
singing your little songs, and I knew
you did not worry, for God takes care of you.
