Birds along HWY 37 and Lakeville Road

Great-Egret1 A few days ago, I drove out to Petaluma from Benicia, taking Highway 37 and then Lakeville Road. I used to drive that way almost every day when I commuted to Sonoma State University as an undergraduate and then as a graduate student.

The first part of the drive passes through wetlands, and as I was leaving Vallejo, I saw a beautiful Great Egret standing in shallow water.red-tailed_hawk_-_immature2-550x801

The second part passes through farmland, where there are cows and sheep, but also several small hawks that like to perch on road-signs, keeping a sharp eye out for the movement of smaller creatures.

I noted two or three young red-tailed hawks.

It was a really lovely drive.
