“Astonishing Symphony” by Jane Beal

Someone was talking.
He had sent the little girl away.
I was supposed to be listening, but

a mockingbird was singing,
hidden in the thick green leaves,
and his astonishing symphony

captured my heart
in an instant
for all time.

  1. I have a special fondness for mockingbirds. they are beautiful, and sing all year long and have varied songs so they never get boring ot listen to.
